KAMPEN - As a fourteen-year-old boy he was called on the shelves under the name Turboglad. Providing unlimited ambition, Champion Tamar Bastiaan gained a spot in 2007 in the pre-programs of acts like Today's Youth and Ali B. Through the mix of rap music with a rocking live band he picked up and maybe because that little man, by his age heels serious texts in the room. Along with Spirit Zero rock band he won several awards and a musical future seemed to be playing. Then it lasted ten years.

Anno 2017 breaks that silence in the Ukien's practice rooms. Here is the music of the album 'A new Dawn' from the new band Brainwavez. Applicable. In this youth center, the band held its first release party ten years earlier. And in this place, the band hopes to pick up the thread after years. Hence the title. "We want to back to the roots of the artist," says Tamar. "We want to go back to what we like to do." And so he is now with band members of the first hour Roy Jansen (bass) and his ten year old cousin Michiel van Dijk (vocalist / guitar), both of Spirit Zero, in the practice room. Drummer Wijnand Flier and guitarist Marten Junior the Munck Mortier are the newcomers in the band.

Roots?

Back to the roots, so. According to Tamar, this is hardly necessary because after the great successes, the music hit the background. The ambitions of the young Champion turned out to be not only musically boundless. He studied law, moved to Cambridge and got a girlfriend. Cousin Michel also started a new adventure, moved to Berlin and built a new life in the metropolis. Relationships, study, work, abroad. Nice, but both started to bother. Were they still in contact with their roots? Where was the music?

That question was all the more loud when the Campaigners ended up in a similar crisis hundreds of kilometers apart. Their relationships came to an end. They all stood alone. Berlin turned out to be a big city in all loneliness, and after completing his study, Tamar wondered what he wanted to do.

New Dawn

At a meeting in the Netherlands, it came to an understanding. "We have to make music together again." Ten years after the success, it became time for 'A New Dawn', as the two names in the title song of their new album. "Do what we like, starting from zero, just as we did it at the time." Their old bandmate Roy Jansen also appeared after a few years of music for a new musical project. And after drumming up, they ended up in the exercise rooms. "Super tof. Again rapping and singing with a strap. Back to the roots".

The roots that the two often refer to in the conversation are about to form the central theme of the album. The inspiration is a quote that Michel once processed in a song. A quote by artist Anton Heyboer: 'The artist must live with his roots around him, otherwise he lives in an empty world'. And those words now take the two to heart with everything they do.

To enjoy

As a result, the ambitions are less highly stressed than when Tamar thought he was going to reach the summit with his music as fourteen years old. "It's about enjoying life and enjoying the music. The most important thing is that you have fun. We do what we like because we like it." Musically speaking, this relaxed vision leads to happy songs with a reggae vibe that often occurs on Michel's acoustic guitar. Michel makes the base of the song and sings melodically in English, then Tamar composes his Dutch rapeseed. Already in the band are some more rock influences in the songs. With this combination, the duo thinks to have found a broad appealing combination. "And especially danceable," laughs Tamar. "So the ladies can dance. That's also important."

Recently, the band released her first new single with video clip. The song Archerman is listening to Youtube. The band will soon present live hair album. Keep an eye on www.brainwavez.eu for location and location.
